Entertaining The Children: Home Made Playdough

Ingredients:

1 c flour
1/2 c salt
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 c water 1 tsp cooking oil
liquid food coloring

Directions

In a heavy sauce pan combine the flour, salt and the cream of tartar. Pour the water and oil in to the dry mixture and stir well. Cook over medium heat for 3-5 minutes, stirring constantly untilt he dough pulls away from the sides of the pan. Remove from heat.

Let cool in a bowl, covered with a wet cloth for one minute.

Add 10-12 drops of food coloring and knead until well blended and smooth. Stor in airtight container in the refrigerator for several weeks.

Note: The consistency is not quite the same as store bought playdough. It's just the tiniest bit stickier, but it works quite well. Also, before I kneaded the food coloring in, and whipped it around a bit with a wooden spoon to mix the coloring in a bit so it would not get on my hands.

Here is a picture of the finshed product (I was running low on the food coloring(only had enough for maybe 6 drops) hence the swirly looking color scheme of the dough).

This is a slide that Emily molded.

This is a tasty looking green taco Katherine made.

Here they are, hard at work!
