Thankful

In keeping with tradition, I posted on Facebook everyday during the month of November (ok, well a lot of days) one reason I was thankful. I kept track of all of these posts and thought I would chronicle them here.

-Today I am thankful in advance for the patience and understanding the universe is hopefully going to bestow upon me so that I will actually survive the teenage years.

-Today I am thankful for my patience and easy going nature. Both have come in quite handy.

-Today I am thankful that my teenage daughter actually likes me for a minute. Those of you with teens know how precious a moment in time like this truly is.

-Today I am thankful for my ability to read. It may seem silly, but reading brings me so much pleasure and knowledge, I can't imagine my life without it.

-Today I am thankful because Ryun has been back to work for two weeks. I know how lucky we are that he is back and only missed seven months.

-Tonight I am thankful for the enthusiastic group of PTA volunteers who came up with some great ideas for the PTA and community.

-Today I am thankful for all who have, all who are and all who will serve this country. Thank you hardly seems like enough.

-Today I am thankful for caffeine.

-Today I am thankful for whatever this random motivation that has found its way to me over the past couple of days. Crossing things of of the to do list feels good.

-Today I am thankful for and so very proud of Julia.

-Music can be such a powerful thing. There have been many times in my life where music has inspired me, soothed me and gotten me through a rough day. For this reason, I am thankful for music and my ability to hear.

-Today I am thankful for the gift of sight. I have seen many beautiful things in my life and for that I am very grateful.

-Today I am thankful for my parents and my sisters. Put simply: my family rocks!

-Today I am thankful for my children. They have taught me more about life, love and patience than I could have ever thought possible.

-Today I am thankful for Katherine. Eleven years ago today (Thanksgiving Day 1999) I was blessed with one of the most amazing and beautiful reasons to be thankful...my daughter Katherine Elizabeth. Happy 11th Birthday Katherine...thank you for bringing so much joy and laughter to my life!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Family Photo

This was taken by my sister at my nephew's 5th birthday party over the weekend.

As you can tell by looking at the kids, there was a Halloween theme!

Happy Birthday...

...to my youngest daughter Julia, who is six years old today!

In keeping with tradition, we started the morning with presents and cup cakes for breakfast. I have done this for everyone's birthday, since Emily was a year old. I could be wrong about this but I think the kids may be more excited about eating cupcakes for breakfast than anything else on the day of someone's birthday...maybe even there own. You have to admit, a cupcake sounds better than a boring old bowl of say, Cheerios.

We will celebrate with my family later today poolside. Pizza is on the menu for dinner, followed by the finishing off the cupcakes I made for this morning's festivities. My sisters are taking Julia for a couple of days as a special treat so she will be spending the first few days of being six with her aunts and cousin in North Andover.

As for the rest of the day, I am off to get ready to sit in as the parent representative for interviews being conducted at HBB for an adjustment counselor.

Happy Birthday Emily!

For those who may not understand how fast time passes...I swear this first picture was taken just the other day...

...not 13 years ago!

Seriously though? Happy Birthday to my oldest daughter Emily!

Somehow...

...ten years have passed since Katherine was born.

I have no idea how, because it seems like it was just last week that I was peeling squash and potatoes at my mother's kitchen table, in preparation for a dinner I would not even get to eat. It seems like it was just last week when Thanksgiving Day came and gave me one of the greatest reasons ever to be thankful.

Somehow, ten years have indeed gone by...

...and Katherine has gone from my baby...

...to my beautiful little girl.

Happy Birthday Katherine!

Katherine's Birthday Photos

As you can tell, the skateboard we got her was a big hit!

She is starting basketball in a couple of weeks so this was the perfect gift.

Cupcakes for breakfast...a time-honored tradition.

One of Mimi and Papa's presents was getting her ears pierced!

She did a great job...barely even flinched.

Goofballs.

Happy Birthday...

...to me! I am officially in my last year of what I would call my "early thirties," so, yeah, I am getting old.

Today should be a nice one, spent with the immediate and extended family. We're heading out this afternoon to Ryun's uncle's house for pumpkin picking, hayrides, a bonfire, and fireworks.

We will be enjoying a turkey dinner at my parents house tomorrow, with my sisters and nephew.

Anyway, Happy Birthday to me!

Happy Birthday...

...to Ryun, who turns 35 today. He's officially staring 40 down at this point, I think.

I feel like there is pretty good chance that he will never grow up (and I do mean that in the nicest of possible ways) but there's something good to be said about being young at heart, don' t you think? It's just a number after all.

Anyway, Happy Birthday Ryun! Here's to many more!

Happy Birthday...

...to Miss. Julia May, who will officially be four at 9:22 this evening.

Four. Crazy. I suppose this would be a good time to share the "when I am four" story. You see that's her answer for everything that she doesn't want to do.

"Julia, would you like to try going down the slide in the pool?"

"No, I will do that when I am four."

So from today forward? Julia is going to...

...go down the slide.

...jump off of the diving board.

...sleep in her own room by herself (oh please God, make this one come true)

...say hi to all those people she said she would acknowledge when she turned four.

...sing every preschool song she has learned.

...ride the school bus to school.

...and about a million other things that I am not remembering!

Anyway, Happy Birthday Julia!

Happy Birthday...

...to Emily, who will be 11 at 5:48 pm precisely.

I could do the usual, "Time passes too fast" thing, but y'all already know that, don't you?

She will be back from her camping trip around 11, at which point we will celebrate with a visit from my sisters and Jack, cupcakes, presents and a trip to the playground if the weather holds out.

Happy Birthday Emily!

Emily...

...is going on her first ever camping trip sans parents. Her Girl Scout troop is camping for a weekend in May (May 30th-June 1st). She is very excited about this, even if the 1st is her birthday and she won't be waking up at home for it. I didn't think this would bother her but, I had to check.

Anyway, I had to ask her leader about medicine etc. and found out that the troop leader is responsible for holding on to and dispensing the medicine. All leaders have to be certified in CPR and first aid, and, it just so happens one of her leaders is actually a nurse at Brockton Hospital. So, I feel totally comfortable with her going (except for the, "Oh my God, my baby won't be with me for two nights" part...medically though, I'm good).

It's funny that this will mean that two kids will be spending their birthdays away from home this year. Julia's will be spent some where in the White Mountains region of NH, because we are camping for that week in July.

Belated Happy Birthday Wishes...

...to my sister Heather, who turned a whopping 27 years old yesterday!

I will be getting together with her today to do...something. Maybe go out to lunch or something along those lines.

Weekend

We had a busy one. On Saturday Ryun and I had a wedding to go to. Not surprisingly, it was a great time (because getting together with old friends from the neighborhood always means a great time). Yesterday we took the kids to the mall where they were having a kids expo. We saw a clown show, got some free toys and trinkets and Emily and Katherine got their hair done fancy by a local salon that was there. After that we went over to my parents for a family dinner in honor of my father's 58th birthday, which is today (Happy Birthday, Dad!). For whatever reason the weekend wiped me out so I came home and after getting the kids settled in bed, went to bed myself. I had plans to have a nice heartwarming night of television watching Extreme Home Makeover: Home Edition and Oprah's new show called Oprah's Big Give. Instead I watched it this morning over breakfast. I LOVE Sunday night tv already with just Extreme and after watching The Big Give, I can tell I am going to love it even more. Nothing like getting in a good cry every once in a while!

Happy Birthday...

...to my daughter, Katherine, who turned 8 at precisely 10:48 this morning. It doesn't seem possible, does it?

Happy Birthday...

...to me!

Interesting facts: I was born on 10/4, at 10:41 am in rooom 104. Isn't that cool?

Similar to that, Julia was born on 7/22 at 9:22, weighing 9lbs, 2.2 oz. She almost made it with the height as well, coming in at 21 3/4 inches...almost but not quite!

Anyway, Happy Birthday to me!

Happy Birthday...

...to my husband, the love of my life, my best friend, a great father, a real pain in the butt, and sometimes, all of that rolled in to one!

Today he turns a whopping 33 years old and we will be celebrating by heading out to dinner tonight. He will be choosing between The Texas Roadhouse and The Olive Garden (his two favorite places to eat). My choice is The Roadhouse, but it's his birthday, not mine. My parents are taking the kids over night.

For those who care...

Ryun shares his birthday with Oliver Stone, Tommy Lee Jones, President William Howard Taft, Prince Harry and QB Dan Marino.
