Emily: Is shut up a bad word?
Me: Well, it's not really a bad word like a swear but, it is rude and you shouldn't say it.
Emily: Well, what if I had to say it?
Me: There is no circumstance in which you would ever have to say shut up. If you wanted someone to be quiet, you could just ask them nicely.
Emily: Well, what if I was an actress in a movie the director told me I had to say shut up as one of my lines?
Me: Well, that would be the only way.
