Basic English Grammar That I Can't Remember!

Is there ever an instance when it is ok to put the proper punctuation within the parenthesis rather than outside?

Example: So impressed was I with the beautiful jewelry, it literally took me that long to decide what I wanted (really, I wanted the whole catalog)!

  1. depends on which phrase the punctuation goes with. If it's just the inside, then put it inside. If it suffices for both, outside.

  2. What she said.

You know, this punctuation thing is hard (I especially cringe over parentheticals).

It really is hard (really!), and don't forget it.

  3. I think that what you'd need to do is put a period on the end of the first sentence, and then have a parenthetical phrase following, with internal punctuation.

Which is okay, really, because the longer your parenthetical sentence is, the weirder it looks to still have it attached to another sentence.
